UN Global Compact
The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest voluntary initiative for corporate social responsibility. Troldtekt joined in 2010. The aim of the UN Global Compact is a worldwide strengthening of businesses’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
As a member of the Global Compact, companies and organisations commit to working with ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour rights, climate and environment, and anti-corruption, as well as contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. These principles must be reflected in the individual organisation as well as in its activities, and an annual progress report must be submitted to the UN.
Well-suited management tool
Global Compact embraces the most significant principles, and by joining it Troldtekt gets a set of useful guidelines which, on the one hand entails certain obligations, while on the other drives and directs our CSR initiatives. All of our CSR reports can be downloaded here.
Following the implementation of the new EU Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Troldtekt will report based on the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
Part of that work is a double materiality analysis. Here, we identify the areas where Troldtekt’s activities have a positive or negative impact on people and the environment, and where people and the world around us have a positive or negative impact on our business.
The UN’s ten principles
Human rights
1. The company should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights within its sphere of influence, and
2. ensure that it does not contribute to human rights abuses
Labour rights
3. The company should uphold freedom of association and effectively recognise the right to collective bargaining, and
4. support the elimination of all forms of forced labour, and
5. support the effective abolition of child labour and
6. eliminate discrimination in labour and employment relations
Environment
7. The company should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges, and
8. take initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility, and
9. encourage the development and dissemination of environmentally friendly technologies
Anti-corruption
10. The company should work against all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery.
The UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals provide a framework for how we can work together to create a socially just and sustainable world. Through the Ten Principles, companies can work with the SDGs in a business context.
