Student accommodation with a focus on community

In the new Basecamp accommodation in Malmö, Sweden, the focus is not only on offering students a place to live, but also a place where community and inspiration are in focus.

In 2016, BaseCamp Student opened its first student residences in Copenhagen, and since then student housing has been added in Poland and Germany – and in Autumn 2022, the first student residences opened in Sweden.

In the Västra Hamnen district of Malmö, 640 BaseCamp Student residences have been built on the site of a former car park within walking distance of the University of Malmö, the city centre and the beach. The residences were built with the aim of strengthening Malmö as a university town.

Social and inspiring community in focus

BaseCamp Students' projects offer full-service accommodation, where furniture and social activities are included in the rent in order to create the best possible conditions for students to thrive. Therefore, in addition to single-room apartments with their own kitchen and bathroom, the building also offers around 1,000 sqm of common areas with a lounge, study room, fitness room and shared kitchens, where it is possible to meet and socialise and build relationships over a game of table tennis or a cup of coffee from the small café. As community is an important cornerstone of BaseCamp Students’ projects, local teams also organise social events for residents to participate in.

In several of the common areas, black-painted Troldtekt acoustic panels have been used to ensure good acoustics, where high sound levels from the many students can be a challenge. At the same time, the acoustic panels blend in well with the industrial design of the rooms with concrete walls and visible black ventilation pipes.
