Harmonious interior design
Gottlieb Paludan Architects in Copenhagen have moved into new large offices in the Nordhavnen harbour district. While rotating construction cranes are busy in the area, the company has embraced the charm of a former warehouse on the quay as its new domicile, and made its mark on the premises.
Daylight floods the large space where Gottlieb Paludan Architects’ 100 or so employees all work under one roof. The light from large south and north-facing windows combines with that from skylights running parallel with the façades and the box that almost extends the length of the room.
The black-clad conference box in the centre is a focal point with a lounge area and meeting rooms, but also adds a sense of structure to the large and flexible room. The canteen, cloakrooms, more meeting rooms and secondary rooms are all placed along the walls. Despite the size of the room and its impressive height, it is architecturally straightforward and welcoming.
Tine Kjærulff Bay, head of design and partner at Gottlieb Paludan, says that its interior reflects the architecture they would like to supply – timeless, simple and Nordic!
Natural balance
Gottlieb Paludan Architects has designed a lot of the furniture for the building, which is mixed with a few carefully selected pieces of classic furniture and light fittings. The numerous pieces of black furniture contrast beautifully with the light ash floor, pale blinds and grey runners. Not only is there symmetry in the room, there is also a balance in the choice of colours and textures.
The architecture of the large industrial room has been carefully transformed into an attractive work environment. There has also been a lot of focus on ensuring good acoustics, which has been achieved by installing Troldtekt in the colour natural wood on the ceilings combined with other acoustic solutions. Troldtekt’s warm textural surface frames the white columns and transverse beams, creating an integrated and coherent whole.
