Optimal acoustics in state-of-the-art swimming pool
The state-of-the-art sports and leisure swimming pool at the tip of the Kiel Fjord, designed by pbr Planungsbüro Rohling of Osnabrück, meets competition standards and is truly exceptional.
With its futuristic design of partially slanted outside walls and a rooftop landscape across several levels, the conspicuous white building with a large glazed facade is a real eye-catcher and introduces an entirely new level of quality to the pools and baths of Schleswig-Holstein's capital city.
The building complex, erected as a steel concrete structure, was planned on the former premises of the municipal abattoir at the Gablenz Bridge; apart from the classic water features of a swimming pool, the facility also houses a shop and a bistro. On a total water surface of 1,720 square metres, visitors of all ages can merrily splash around in the various indoor and outdoor pools or leisurely do lengths.
The sports pool with 8 x 50m lanes can be subdivided by a mobile wall. Diving platforms (1, 3 and 5 metres) are positioned at the deep end of the pool. At the other end, the water depth is variable thanks to a movable floor.
There’s also a lot to explore in the leisure pool: bubble jet islands, horizontal jets for neck massages, floor jets, pool mushroom fountains and a water slide with a staggering length of 70 metres are guaranteed to offer aquatic fun. In and along the pool for infants and toddlers, the youngest water babies can admire and explore figures such as a lion seal or navigate the ‘shipping’ channel.
Pleasure-seeking guests can relax on the inviting sunbathing lawn under the open skies or indoors on the top floor of the barrier-free swimming pool. The spacious spa area with four differently themed saunas is also located here.
Troldtekt cement-bonded wood wool panels span over the basins in the sports section and over the leisure and learning pools. The open structure of the moisture-proof acoustic panels by Troldtekt very effectively absorbs noise. This reduces reverberations and disruptive noise in the indoor pool area and the adjacent facilities.
