Where swimming becomes an adventure
The new Schwaketenbad on Lake Constance has something for everyone with lots of space, attractive architecture and just the right mix of sport and leisure pursuits.
The people of Konstanz, the largest city on Lake Constance, have been awaiting the opening of the new Schwaketenbad with anticipation, after it had to be completely rebuilt following a devastating fire in 2015. Now everyone agrees: the biggest water park on Lake Constance has not lost its original charm – quite the opposite.
Designed by Behnisch Architekten in Stuttgart, the swimming pool with its large glazed façade and three green roofs located idyllically on the edge of town blends harmoniously into the natural environment and has an open and welcoming feel.
Seven pools is seven times the fun
Inside, guests can swim, frolic and relax in a total of seven pools covering an area of 1500 m2. The large, bright pool area looking out over the countryside contains a 25-metre pool for swimmers, a pool with slide for non-swimmers, a large water playground, a toddler pool with slide and water toys as well as a diving pool with five-metre diving platform. Adjacent to this and separated by a glass wall, there is a large slide tower offering fast-paced fun with light effects and rubber rings, a teaching pool and another 25-metre swimming pool. If you’d rather keep warm and relax, the new Schwaketenbad now also has an attractive relaxation area with a warm pool, steam sauna, infrared room and loungers.
Noteworthy ceiling with a natural feel
The ceiling complex has been designed to add considerable interest to the structure, with pitched areas comprised of interlocking sections staggered in height. The floor around the pool is fitted with building material class A2 (non-combustible) acoustic panels with wooden strips, above which the wooden-clad ceilings appear to hover with very few supports, lending the pool area a natural feel.
