Spektrum Vejle

The Danish Gymnastics and Sports Associations (DGI) unites 5000 associations and about 1.3million people involved in sport in Denmark. The latest DGI hall has just been built in Vejle together with refurbishment of an existing area. The building is clad in shiny expanded metal, which creates a strong visual effect together with its pale decorated concrete walls.

It has been ingeniously designed by Arkitema Architects so that its vast floor space can be used to the full. For example, after a ball game during the day, the stands can be quickly collapsed down to a width of just two metres and the sports floor covered with special protective cloth. By these simple methods, it is possible to hold events - a large political meeting, a conference or a fashion show perhaps -  that same evening.

Such a high degree of flexibility requires a well-designed basic lighting solution together with outstanding acoustics. In the main hall, this challenge has been solved by installing large suspended white-painted Troldtekt acoustic panels on all the wall surfaces. These lightens up the entire space while providing a striking contrast to the black painted ceiling with its visible load-bearing steel construction.

In the foyer and the fitness section, cement-bonded wood wool has been mounted on ceiling surfaces, so that the new part of the complex is acoustically subdued with different thicknesses of Troldtekt acoustic panels in coarse and ultrafine structure.
