Guide to Copenhagen’s districts:

Where to find culinary experiences and good acoustics

Most eateries know how to serve food and wine. However, many restaurants, cafés and bars in Copenhagen are also succeeding in serving up an exclusive and intimate atmosphere where excessive noise is eliminated to allow guests to enjoy the dining experience.

Troldtekt acoustic solutions are contributing to this development in several ways:

  • Good acoustics

Troldtekt’s open surface structure effectively absorbs sound, so noise does not bounce around the room. The result: a calmer and more pleasant restaurant experience for diners.

  • Flexible design solutions

Whether the desire is for a bright and Nordic look or one that is more expressive and colourful, the extensive range of Troldtekt acoustic solutions will provide the perfect match. Not least the company’s award-winning design solutions.

  • Documented sustainability

Troldtekt acoustic panels in natural wood, natural grey and in the company’s standard colours are certified at Gold level in accordance with the international Cradle to Cradle design concept. Troldtekt acoustic panels are documented as being free of harmful substances.

#1 Inner City

Historic buildings, museums and lots of shopping. ‘Indre By’, which translates directly as ‘inner city’, acts as a magnet for Copenhagenites and visitors alike. Indre By also boasts several notable eateries featuring Troldtekt acoustic solutions. Visit Restaurant Tårnet inside one of the towers of Christiansborg Palace, the seat of the Danish parliament, for a dining experience in very special surroundings. Here, you will find carved lions and 11-metre-high arched ceilings, which calls for even more acoustic regulation in the form of Troldtekt panels.

In the Tivoli Gardens amusement park, you will find Sticks’n’ Sushi, which has been designed in collaboration with OEO Studio. In dark and elegant surroundings – featuring, for example, Troldtekt rhomb – guests can enjoy a sushi menu with views of the Tivoli Gardens and the vibrantly bustling district of Vesterbro.

Honest food and honest materials. This pretty well sums up Restaurant MARK, which is located at Axeltorv and designed by ATM Design.  The bright and organic decor incorporates several different Troldtekt acoustic panels, which stylishly match the rest of the design.

#2 Vesterbro

Hip Vesterbro is renowned for its festive nightlife with bars and clubs, and this is also where you find ‘Kødbyen’, the former meat-packing district turned artsy, hipster ’hood.

In the middle of Kødbyen is Scandic Hotel, which houses MØR Restaurant & Bar. With an interior that exudes lounge and bar atmosphere – with black Troldtekt panels – the scene is set for an authentic Vesterbro evening.

Continuing the tour along Vesterbrogade at around cocktail o’clock, the Portuguese cocktail bar Curfew is well worth a visit. The atmosphere is intimate, and it is almost as if time stands still with the music, the decor and the ambience, which takes you back to the USA in the 1930s. The scene is set with black-painted Troldtekt ceilings, exposed brick walls and small and cosy tables.

The former Absalon’s Church is now a community centre, Folkehuset Absalon, which hosts various activities such as chess, yoga, bingo and vinyl record fairs.  In addition, there is communal dining every day at 18:00 for those wanting an inexpensive and tasty supper in the company of others. The former church has high ceilings, which is why black-painted Troldtekt was chosen to avoid poor acoustics.

#3 Carlsberg City District

Carlsberg City District is a district both old and new. It takes its name, of course, from the old Carlsberg breweries that were sited here up until 2008. However, over the coming decades the site is being transformed into a district with a mix of housing, workplaces and cultural facilities.

The chef Adam Aamann has opened the restaurant Genbo on Kildepladsen in Carlsberg City District, where the industrial architecture combines with an air of modernity. C.F. Møller Architects designed the restaurant, where black-painted Troldtekt acoustic panels create a cosy atmosphere.  When in the area, you can also stop by Alexanders Bistro, which offers various snacks in a bright and airy interior where grey Troldtekt line design acoustic panels have been installed.

If you prefer fine dining, try visiting the restaurant STUDIO. The experimental French-Nordic cuisine with a Japanese touch is also reflected in the interior design, which is both eye-catching and aesthetic. ATM Design is behind the interior, where black-painted Troldtekt contributes to pleasant sound levels for diners.

#4 Frederiksberg

The charming and green district of Frederiksberg is always worth a visit – especially the Frederiksberg Gardens, and also Copenhagen ZOO right next door.  The Yellow House, a historic building at the entrance to the ZOO, now houses the refurbished restaurant FOLK, an informal and charming family restaurant designed by ATM Design. Here, visitors can enjoy classic Danish cuisine in bright and friendly surroundings where the acoustics are kept in check with suspended Troldtekt acoustic clouds.

A stone’s throw from the ZOO is the restaurant Izumi. In elegant surroundings, guests can savour Nordic-Japanese cuisine, but the venue is almost worth visiting for the decor alone. Pan-Projects and Mok Architects have created moody dark surfaces including black-painted Troldtekt acoustic panels, and which are interspersed by the warmth of wood panelling, for example, to create a completely unique experience.

#5 Østerbro

Head east, and you will find yourself in lovely Østerbro with ‘Fælledparken’, which is the largest park in Copenhagen, the citadel ‘Kastellet’ and, of course, The Little Mermaid. Østerbro is also boutique shops, beautiful boulevards and a generally relaxed atmosphere – especially for the youngest family members.

If you start feeling peckish, you can always drop by the coffee shop, patisserie and takeaway Hahnemanns Køkken and pick up something to enjoy in one of the green oases.  Hahnemanns also organises cooking courses. Hahnemanns Køkken is stylishly decorated, and – as with the food – the emphasis is on Scandinavian produce, sustainability and hygge. Here too, black-painted Troldtekt acoustic panels are a feature of the interior design.

For a restaurant experience in a class of its own, spend an evening at Connection by Alan Bates. The restaurant has just three tables with seating for six people at each. The dark and intimate interior where accent lighting has been used to full effect was designed by Bruno Jakobsen Design. Troldtekt v-line based on the cement type FUTURECEM™ also plays a key role here, as the ceiling’s discreet v-shaped grooves help to create the right mood.

#6 Nordhavn

Today, the district of Nordhavn functions as a port and industrial area, where the former industrial activities are being incorporated into new architecture with homes, shops and cafés – right on the water’s edge. This is where you will find Sushi Anaba, which – like the food it serves – is minimalist but elegant. Black Troldtekt line has been installed for a stylish acoustic ceiling.

If you want to treat yourself to some more stunning architecture, visit the head office of COBE Architects, where an architecture café – Depanneur & COBE Café – has opened, also to the public. The industrial design goes well with white-painted Troldtekt acoustic panels. BAUNarkitektur with Stokholm Normark and Studio Ane Lykke are behind the design.

#7 Klampenborg/Charlottenlund

North of Copenhagen, and surrounded by beautiful beechwoods, lies the deer park Dyrehaven in Klampenborg. An idyllic destination on a warm summer’s day.

At Dyrehaven, you will find Peter Lieps Hus. The iconic restaurant has recently been renovated, which has highlighted the venue’s charm and original details, and guests can now enjoy a delicious meal in light and historic surroundings – while the design solution Troldtekt line ensures good acoustics.

A short distance away from Klampenborg is Charlottenlund, which is located right on the coast. On Strandvejen is Café Jorden Rundt, which is a perfect pitstop to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the sea views. The round building dates back to 1939, and still boasts well-preserved details from that era in spite of having been given a major revamp. Troldtekt on the ceiling ensures that an otherwise enjoyable experience is not marred by poor acoustics.

#8 Nørrebro

Hip Nørrebro is Copenhagen’s multicultural and creative district – and boasts a wealth of international dining venues and fabulous coffee shops. Here, you will find everything from delicious kebab rolls to exclusive cafés and restaurants.

In addition to freshly baked bread and cakes, Mirabelle Bakery also sells fresh pasta. Everything is served in inviting rooms designed by ATM Design, where wood and Troldtekt acoustic panels in natural wood are combined with a distinctive black-and-white tiled floor.

A stone’s throw from the famous Assistens Cemetery is BRUS, a former industrial building that has been transformed into a pub and restaurant. You can still sense the past in the raw brick walls and exposed pipes, which tie in well with the contemporary elegant materials, including Troldtekt.

If you fancy a piping-hot pizza made from the freshest of ingredients for supper, then drop by BÆST in Nørrebro. The pizzas can be enjoyed in rustic and cosy surroundings with good acoustics.

#9 Nordvest

The Nordvest district of Copenhagen is unpolished and authentic – with many interesting places tucked away, including Bispebjerg Cemetery, which people flock to every spring to see the picturesque cherry trees in blossom. There is also the monumental Grundtvig’s Church and many exciting dining venues.

Another good reason for visiting Nordvest is Miklagaard Café & Steakhouse and Pizza & Pasta. ‘Miklagaard’ was the Viking name for Constantinople, and was chosen because the eatery’s owners have Mediterranean roots. Here, meals are served during the day and evening in tasteful surroundings. The Troldtekt ceilings are black with white central sections that follow the sweep of the room.

#10 Sydhavnen

Copenhagen’s southern harbour area is often overlooked by visitors, which is a pity. Explore the waterfront which is dotted with small cafés, and tie your shoelaces tightly for the 13 km walk along ‘Havneringen’ – a walking and cycling route along footpaths and pavements overlooking the water. Meanwhile, you can take in the exciting architecture – or take a stroll past the Sluseholmen harbour baths.

When in Sydhavnen, pay a visit to the restaurant Herkomst in Pakhuset. The newly opened restaurant and its Michelin chef owner offer a gastronomic experience in a raw yet elegant setting, where original features from the former warehouse have been preserved and supplemented with, among other things, Troldtekt ceilings in natural grey.
